Houseleek is a succulent plant. The fresh leaves harvested before flowering, and the juice they contain, are used to make medicine. Houseleek is used for diarrhea, stomach ulcers, cancer, diabetes, burns, gout, and ear infections, but there is no good scientific evidence to support these uses.
Leaves of Sempervivum can be used in a similar manner to Aloe vera to treat minor burns, insect bites, and skin injuries. Flavonoids in the leaves contribute to their anti-inflammatory properties. Also, the leaves the Common Houseleek, Sempervivum tectorum, can be added to salads for crunch and a cucumber-like flavor.
Unlike uncountable more or less robust hybrids, the real, very robust species offered here are hardly known and very rare.
